Matte lip color is one trend that isn’t leaving anytime soon. If you have been contemplating giving this look a go, you may not know where to start. Fortunately, it is a fast and easy process with the right know-how. Read on to discover three steps to achieving the perfect matte lip.

Prep Your Lips

Before applying any color, you should prep your lips by exfoliating and applying a light layer of moisturizing balm. Doing this beforehand will ensure that your matte lip color lasts as long as possible and can also prevent a flaky, dry or patchy appearance. Use a gentle exfoliator and rub in small circular motions for the best results.

Line and Fill

It’s important to fill your lips with a high-quality pencil before using a matte lip color as these formulas are notorious for streaking. Pick a shade that is as close to your matte lipstick as possible for the most even color result. Once you have finished outlining your lips, fill them in with your matte lip color. Finish by patting your finger gently across the surface of your lips to help the formula dry evenly. Add as many layers of color as you want to achieve your desired look.

Perfect and Seal

Once you have allowed your lip color to dry fully, then apply a thin layer of balm over it to prevent dryness and help it last all day long. A patting motion works best for this step. Clean up any rough edges with a dab of concealer and finish with translucent powder. If you prefer to avoid using lip balm to seal the color, you can alternatively pat on translucent powder.

You don’t need to be a pro makeup artist to achieve the perfect matte lip. With a little patience and practice, you can learn how to create this trend without the use of expensive products. Give it a try today!
